Community reinforcement in southern provinces of Thailand (Actionaid)
objectives :
- to strengthen civil society organisations as intermediaries between local communities and local authorities
- to promote equal participation in sustainable development and poverty reduction actions.
- Confirmed the Four Pillars’ (four type of leaders: Religious leader, two Official Community leaders, and Natural leader) engagement in community development of three villages in the conflict areas
- Attended a Southern seminar organized by Southern NGOs alliances, partners and their network to address the inequalities of governmental development and put forward a Southern development proposition to Thai government
- Secured funding to continue the project for the next three years (2011-2013) to build its development sustainability
- Local partners’ managerial capabilities will be strengthened, particularly their organizational, community mobilization and participation, leadership and technical skills
- Institutionalized involvement of civil society with provincial authorities will be strengthened, especially for the planning and implementation of development projects with the provincial offices of the Ministry of the Interior
- Entrepreneurship and marketing support will be provided to local community-based businesses
- Land access, property issues and processes will be more transparent and people are clear about their entitlements
